On December 18, Yanshan Petrochemical's hydrogen purification facility, with a capacity of 10,000 standard cubic meters per hour, was officially brought online. With this new facility, Yanshan Petrochemical's total annual production capacity for fuel cell-grade hydrogen has exceeded 8,000 tons, enabling a daily supply of 24 tons for fuel cell vehicles in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. This development positions the company as the largest supplier of hydrogen for fuel cells in North China and marks a significant step toward Sinopec's goal of becoming China's leading hydrogen energy company. It also provides a strong boost to the hydrogen energy industry in Beijing.

The hydrogen purification project is a key infrastructure initiative for Beijing in 2024 and a flagship investment under Sinopec's new energy strategy. Construction began in March 2024, with the facility covering an area of 13,700 square meters. The project features a hydrogen purification system, compression system, product filling system, online analysis and inspection system, and a safety control system. Using Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology, the facility purifies by-product hydrogen from Yanshan Petrochemical's ethylene production unit to a purity level of over 99.999%.

The new facility significantly eases hydrogen supply constraints in the Beijing area, addressing the growing demand for fuel cell hydrogen in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. It also provides vital support for the establishment of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle demonstration cluster and the development of a complete hydrogen energy industry chain in the region.
